Looking Back: Drexel University, Northside Dining Terrace – Philadelphia, PA

Niki Ververelli - Thursday, May 08, 2014

Completed just in time for the beginning of the 2009 Fall Term, the Northside Dining Terrace changed the campus dining landscape for Drexel University’s University City Campus. DJVI provided Professional Design, Administration, and Management Services for the addition of the retail dining location. The 5,100 sq.ft. food court/convenience store serves as the premiere north campus retail dining location and was awarded the 2010 General Building Contractors Association award for Best Industrial/Institution Project under $15M.

The Northside Dining Terrace can be found just south of Kelly Hall at 34th & Race Streets. This project continues to be a favorite for many reasons. One, John Ververelli lived within the orange brick and mortar structure that is Kelly Hall many moons ago. Side note: apparently, orange brick was cheaper than red brick?! (http://articles.philly.com/2013-06-29/news/40257597_1_drexel-university-constantine-papadakis-brick). Second, did you know that there is a heated floor in the space? Trust, I took my shoe off one afternoon over lunch and it was, in fact, warm.

I do suggest making a trip over to the Drexel campus for a visit. My personal favorite? Currito! There are plenty of options there, but you can’t go wrong with a classic burrito from Currito.
