Project Spotlight: Independence Blue Cross – Philadelphia, PA

Niki Ververelli - Thursday, May 08, 2014

As you take in the Philadelphia skyline, a blue pillar stands tall amongst the other buildings – the Independence Blue Cross Building at 1901 Market Street in Center City Philadelphia. There, 3,400 employees work throughout the 45-floor skyscraper for one of the largest healthcare providers in the region which serves more than nine million people throughout the world. Speaking of anniversaries, 2013 saw the 75th anniversary for Independence Blue Cross – a milestone, indeed!

Now, down to business… all of those employees need somewhere to walk into every day and also to eat lunch - fundamentals. Enter DJVI! The lobby and 4th floor cafeteria have been modernized and renovated with DJVI providing Professional Engineering Services for the design and documentation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection modifications to the spaces. Going forward, each floor of the building will be modernized. The project not only includes bringing a fresh look to each floor and space but also re-thinking how the spaces are used, thus maximizing the power of the 3,400 IBX employee workforce within.
